Registration for Parallel Production / Ownership

Registration Timining

Producers can register Parallel Production/Ownership at any time. However, if a non-conformance is detected prior to registration, producers will not be able to avoid the appropriate sanctions simply by registering.

Example (click to expand / reduce)

In case a producer registers for Parallel Production/Ownership during the validity of the certificate, the certification body will carry out an additional inspection to check the applicable control points.

If the inspection takes place before the product handling process of certified and non-certified products begins, the certification body shall then verify that the traceability and segregation procedures are available and ready for implementation. Once the handling process begins, the certification body will require evidence of this implementation (either in the form of documents or through another on-site assessment).

Question 3-1-2
A producer wants to certify lettuce. Some lettuce is produced in a drip irrigation system and some in open fields with overhead irrigation. During the inspection, the inspector detects that the irrigation water used for the open field irrigation does not comply with the irrigation water specifications. As there is no risk in the drip irrigation system, the producer wants to certify the part of the lettuce crop that was irrigated by this system. The open field crop would then be non-certified. Can the producer register Parallel Production at this point to ensure that a part of his lettuce crop will still be certified?

Yes, because the producer can register for Parallel Production at any time.
No, because the producer cannot use registering for Parallel Production as part of a corrective measure.
